Vacancies
In the Canton of St. Gallen, 1.37% of the housing stock is untenanted. For instance, 2.36% of all 1-room flats, 1.67% of the existing flats with two rooms, 1.64% of all three-room flats, 1.4% of the four-room flats and 1.02% of existing flats with five rooms are currently vacant.
Newly constructed properties
New homes were also created in the Canton of St. Gallen. Over the previous 5 years, 14’763 new flats have been added. This includes 559 flats with exactly 1 room and 2862 flats with two rooms. In addition, the area gained 4586 flats with 3 rooms and 4297 4-room flats. Lastly, 1636 five-room flats and 823 flats with at least six rooms are ready for new occupants.

The average price for properties to let is CHF 1450 per month. At the same time, 25% of rents are below or equivalent to CHF 1180 per month (25th percentile). Finally, seventy-five per cent of rental prices are CHF 1775 or less.
