Formerly part of the Viertels Grafschaft, it has been part of the municipality of Goms since 2017. First mentioned in 1277 as "Buele", Biel was its historical center from 1374. A landslide destroyed half of the village in 1827, and since 2003, a dam has protected it from the Walibach.
