Description
Engraved on the facade, the dates 1818 and 1838 say it all: this mayen has seen two centuries of alpine life pass by.
Located at 1'699 m altitude, on the edge of the forest, it looks out over the valley and the peaks of the Val de Bagnes as if for the first time. A rare property, sold for what it is: an authentic refuge, not a promise of transformation.
The Mayen du Tseppi is a traditional mayen made of mélèze beams, patinated by two hundred years of sun and snow, topped with its corrugated iron roof with the characteristic rust tones of the Bagnard pastures. Inside, a large living area of approximately 36 m², with original floor and paneling, heated by a magnificent wood-fired stove. Petroleum lamps suspended from the beams, family table, old wooden basin: the soul of the place is intact.
In front of the mayen, a fountain basin and a meadow of 1'000 m², fenced and south-facing. The view opens up without obstacle over the valley, the fir forests and the crown of peaks. Here, there are no neighbors, no road, no noise, silence is the master piece.
Access is on foot, about 10 minutes' walk from the agricultural road that overlooks the chalet, which is precisely the charm and value of this place: one comes here to cut off, not to arrive. The roof has a very good solar potential (class 4/5 according to toitsolaire.ch), allowing for simple autonomous electricity generation by panels.
A place that deserves it
One doesn't stumble upon the Mayen du Tseppi by chance and that's just as well. In summer, a drivable alpine path winds its way from Bruson through forests and clearings: from Le Châble, it's about thirty minutes, windows open, to the rhythm of the mountains. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended.
The last ten minutes are on foot, on a path that opens onto the meadow and its basin, the exact time needed to leave the valley behind.
Out of season, the path is not cleared: the mayen can then be reached on foot or by snowshoes, depending on the snow cover, as its builders did.
