Guttet was first mentioned in a document in 1261 under the name "de gottet". The mountain village on the north slope of the Rhone Valley included, in addition to the village center, the hamlets of Grächmatten and Wiler. The neighboring village of Feschel, which lies on a distinctive hill spur, was mentioned as "Vexil" or "Veselli" - designations that translate to "hill" or "mountain" and accurately describe the geographical character of the village.

For many centuries, Guttet and Feschel were independent municipalities - yet always closely connected. They shared interests, traditions, and social life, which led to a strong community.
