Guttet was first mentioned in a document in 1261 under the name "de gottet". The mountain village on the north slope of the Rhone Valley included, in addition to the village center, the hamlets of Grächmatten and Wiler. The neighboring village of Feschel, which is located on a distinctive hill spur, was mentioned as "Vexil" or "Veselli" - designations that mean "hill" or "mountain" and accurately describe the geographical character of the village.
