Description
This enchanting wine complex, which has developed around an old monastery, dominates the valleys of Monferrato, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The property includes a total of approximately 70 rooms with a total area of 1,466 sqm on 4 levels. The main house has 4 independent apartments, each with a kitchen and bathroom, for a total of 10 air-conditioned rooms with 30 beds. In addition to its history as a Catholic monastery, the property also housed a restaurant and a hotel in the past. The esteemed family of Nobel laureate Rita Levi-Montalcini is among the property's former owners. Buildings and Renovations In the last 20 years, the property has been extensively renovated, using only the highest-quality materials and the best professionals to preserve the historical architecture and enhance it while integrating modern comfort for year-round use. The main house with the old wine cellar, the restaurant, the crypt, and the old church, now used as a garage, have been carefully restored. The property also features a modern wine cellar, a lively pool area with a pool bar, an inner courtyard, terraces, and various service buildings, including a barbecue hut and a light warehouse by the lake. The main building was renovated between 2000 and 2004, with great emphasis on preserving the historical character of the buildings while ensuring modern comfort. High-quality local materials were used, such as handmade terracotta floors, reused old roof tiles, and organic lime for walls and partitions. The original elements were carefully restored, preserving their historical charm. Between 2005 and 2010, a modern wine cellar was integrated into the slope and an infinity pool was added, significantly expanding the leisure offer. The main kitchen was also renovated, using handicraft materials that enhance the Piedmontese traditions. From 2014 to 2017, further significant interventions were carried out. The facades were restored with great care, preserving their historical appearance but ensuring adequate structural solidity. The old cellar and the restaurant, including the industrial kitchen, were renovated while maintaining their rustic charm. The access and main entrance were redesigned to improve accessibility and aesthetics, and in the church, now used as a garage, the windows were restored to their traditional form. Finally, the roof of the new wine cellar was converted into a large roof terrace, and a pool bar was set up in the pool area. Estate and Outdoor Areas The 13.7 hectares of the estate include a unique mix of vineyards, hazelnut groves, woodland areas, and a picturesque lake. The agricultural activity of the estate is optimized by 4.6 hectares of vineyards, carefully tuned to the different grape varieties through extensive soil analyses. The restructuring of the vineyards began in 2006, with important steps taken between 2016 and 2018 to optimize the compatibility between vines and soil and to convert the planting from vertical to horizontal rows, reducing diseases and improving the health of the vines. Since 2019, the entire winery has been biologically certified. The estate is characterized by high biodiversity, with numerous trees and a forest that is home to herons, eagles, wild boars, otters, deer, foxes, wild rabbits, hares, and a variety of insects and birds. The balance between cultivated areas and untouched woods, combined with water protection and ecological management, creates a unique natural ecosystem.
