What is a housing cooperative?

A housing cooperative is a non-profit organization that builds or manages housing for its members. The inhabitants are shareholders: they buy shares but remain tenants (they are not owners of their apartment).

The rents are calculated based on the actual costs, so often lower than on the market. The members participate in the decisions and management of the cooperative (assemblies, votes).

The goal is to guarantee quality, stable and affordable housing with a community and solidarity spirit.


The project in a few words:

This housing cooperative project is located in the village of Burtigny, near the main street, and benefits from an unobstructed view of the fields and the landscape of Lake Geneva.

It plans to build about a dozen apartments, spread over two levels + attic.

The future inhabitants will have the possibility to participate from the first stages in the design of their apartment, in order to adapt it to their needs while preserving the architectural harmony of the whole. Common spaces will complement the project, promoting a balance between private life and collective life. The cooperative members will be invited to engage in a real common adventure and contribute to the creation of a sustainable, unique and harmonious living space with the identity of the village.

A partnership with the Commune provides for the construction of a parking lot nearby as well as the connection to district heating, powered by an ecological energy source. The architecture will prioritize the use of local, sustainable and environmentally friendly materials, linked to the forest and agricultural resources of the region.


Cooperative share:

The amount will be defined according to the apartment size.


Projected rent types and monthly rents (excluding water and heating costs):

-2 rooms (approx. 55 m2)
from CHF 1'146.- + charges per month.

-3 rooms (approx. 76 m2)
from CHF 1'750.- + charges per month.

-4 rooms (approx. 120 m2)
from CHF 2'604.- + charges per month.

-5 rooms (approx. 135 m2)
from CHF 2'854.- + charges per month.
