Description
Directly on Claraplatz, in the heart of Kleinbasel, we rent a cozy 1-room apartment with separate kitchen and bathroom, entrance hall with built-in wardrobe and a large balcony facing the quiet courtyard. The apartment is located in a central location, public transport and shopping facilities of all kinds are in the immediate vicinity, just a few minutes' walk from the Rhine and into the Basel city center.
At the intersection of Greifen- and Rebgasse lies the Claraplatz, which is the service and shopping center of all Kleinbasel. The square is named after the Clarakirche. Here, you will no longer find medieval houses like those in the side streets off the main axis of Greifengasse. Around the turn of the century, numerous buildings in the vicinity of Claraplatz were replaced; today, various large department stores and commercial buildings stand in their place. Within the former city walls, especially in the vicinity of the Rhine, numerous old buildings have been preserved over the centuries.
One of the advantages of the Kleinbasler Altstadt is its southwest-facing location on the Rhine, which gives the houses on the tree-lined Rhine promenade afternoon and evening sun. A stay on the Rhine bank creates a holiday atmosphere, especially when Rhine ships pass by. Various restaurants and hotels at the Kleinbasler Brückenkopf also benefit from the favorable location.
With the Kaserne, the Kleinbasler Altstadt has a cultural meeting point with a wide range of uses, which offers a variety of uses side by side like no other. In the buildings of the former military barracks, there are, in addition to classrooms, the Kulturwerkstatt Kaserne, the Restaurant Kaserne, a senior citizens' meeting point, the Kinder-Spiel-Estrich, a mosque, a women's meeting point, a day care center for children, artists' studios, and the Restaurant Parterre with a cultural stage. The large, partially greened inner courtyard, which is open to the Klybeckstrasse, is used on the one hand by the aforementioned institutions and on the other hand for tent and outdoor performances in the summer months. During the autumn fair, the area has been transformed into a festival town with various amusement rides and carousels for several years. For some time now, there has been a discussion about a new design for the area. In 2013, the Grand Council approved a loan for the renovation and conversion of the area.
