Nur ein paar Kurven entfernt, die Piazza Grande von Locarno ist das Herzstück der Stadt, mit seinen harmonischen Laubengängen im lombardischen Stil und unter denen man zahlreiche Geschäfte und Restaurants findet. Der Platz ist der Salon der Stadt und ist von antiken Gebäuden gesäumt. Speziell im Sommer ist er besonders belebt, wenn Moon & Stars und das Internationale Filmfestival stattfinden. Piazza Grande ist der Ausgangspunkt, um die nennenswertesten Sehenswürdigkeiten im historischen Zentrum zu besichtigen, wie das Castello Visconteo, die vielen Kirchen in der Altstadt, die Seepromenade und die bedeutende Kirche San Vittore in Muralto.
